Machine vision for mechanical engineering and automation
Machine vision is a core part of modern machinery and automated production lines. Camera systems detect parts, inspect quality, measure geometries, read codes and supply position data for robots or downstream processes.
VISIONTECHNIK supports machine builders, system integrators and automation engineers in selecting the right components for machine vision applications - from industrial cameras and lenses through lighting and smart cameras to code readers, frame grabbers and accessories.
We look beyond the camera. Field of view, smallest inspection feature, working distance, speed, lighting, interface and the mechanical installation all have to be considered together.
Presence and completeness checks
Is the correct part present? Has a screw been fitted? Is a seal in the right position?
Machine vision enables automated pass/fail checks directly at production speed.
Position and orientation detection
Cameras determine the position and orientation of parts and supply coordinates to the PLC, robot or handling system.
Typical applications are:
- pick and place
- part feeding
- assembly positioning
- workpiece alignment
- robot guidance
Vision guided robotics
2D and 3D cameras allow robots to locate, grip and precisely position parts.
For randomly oriented parts, 3D vision systems can be used for bin picking.
Automated quality control
Cameras inspect, for example:
- assembly errors
- surface defects
- geometries
- bores
- edges
- positions
- distances
- completeness
Measuring parts
With the right camera, optics and calibration, dimensions can be checked without contact.
Where high accuracy is required, telecentric lenses and defined backlighting are commonly used.
Identification and traceability
Barcodes, DataMatrix codes, QR codes and plain text can be read within automated production processes and assigned to a part or production order.
Which components do you need?
Depending on the application, the following are used:
- area scan cameras
- line scan cameras
- smart cameras
- vision sensors
- 3D cameras
- code readers
- lenses
- telecentric optics
- machine vision lighting
- frame grabbers
- trigger and I/O cables
- encoders
- filters
